Overview
Starburst provides a unified context layer that allows users to access and query data across multiple systems without the need to build pipelines or copy data. Built around Trino and the Apache Iceberg data lakehouse, the platform enables organisations to place one governed intelligence layer over their existing data so that analysts, decisions makers, and AI agents can receive answers without moving bytes. Users can connect to over fifty data sources using a single SQL statement, including systems like Snowflake, Databricks, Amazon Athena, Amazon Redshift, and PostgreSQL.
The platform features integrated layers designed to ingest raw data into Iceberg in under sixty seconds, stream from Kafka, or batch ingest formats such as CSV, JSON, and AVRO. LakeOps automatically maintains table health through compaction, snapshot expiry, and orphan file removal on a serverless engine that operates independently of the core cluster. Teams can turn raw tables into certified data products by adding ownership, business definitions, and lineage to establish a consistent ground truth.
Additionally, AIDA translates natural language questions into governed insights powered by these data products. Starburst offers two main deployment models. Starburst Galaxy is a fully managed software-as-a-service platform on major cloud providers for teams looking for speed and simplicity.
Starburst Enterprise delivers control across private cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments, suiting regulated enterprises with specific data residency, sovereignty, and high-availability requirements. The architecture supports open standards and workload isolation at enterprise scale, helping organisations reduce total cost by querying in place rather than duplicating data or replatforming.
